Who we are
The Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute is a charity that brings the best medical professionals in the world together in order to carry out research on pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) which can be more commonly described as high blood pressure in the lungs. This is a fatal illness, affects people of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds, including many fit young athletes. It is estimated that over 60 million people in the world suffer from PVD, although this figure could be much higher as the disease is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
The PVRI is the only global medical research charity fighting PVD. Our mission is to improve the care of patients with PVD throughout the world by raising awareness of PVD, facilitating research and encouraging the development of medicines to treat PVD.
We have established Regional and Specialist Task Forces all over the world to raise awareness of the disease and to facilitate research.
